Okay, it sounds crazy, but it’s legit. I’ve earned £20 worth of Amazon vouchers from using Gener8 ads, so therefore, I have to tell you about it!
Searching the internet can be a dark and dismal place, but luckily you can brighten up your browsing and earn money/freebies from it too. This is all down to a new company called Gener8 ads.
Basically, it’s a browser plugin that replaces the horrible ads you aren’t interested in seen all over the web, and instead gives you feel good pictures to look at in its place. This includes pictures of pugs, inspirational quotes and holiday themes like so:
The whole point of this is, instead of a company earning money by you viewing ads on its website, Gener8 earns the money from it, and in return, pays you for viewing it. It’s a clever way for you to earn from viewing ads, instead of massive websites.
It’s important to note that this company is currently in its Beta stage – where the goal is to tailor adverts to things that you want to see (and you’ll also be paid in cash for it) but for now, the cute animals are a nice touch.
How does it work?
To begin, you’ll need to download the Gener8 browser plugin, either on Google Chrome or Firefox (Safari is coming soon). Once you have installed the plugin, you can sign up for an account. You’ll be asked to fill out some ‘preferences’ based on your interests. Make sure you fill that page out to 100%, or you won’t earn as many tokens.
Once all that is done, you can start earning when browsing! Every time you see a Gener8 advert, you get paid in their currency of ‘tokens’, which will be added to your account. These can build up pretty quickly as you could see several ads on a single website.
The bigger the ad, the more you are paid. Reading a Metro article the other day, two huge banners popped up which gave me a lot of tokens.
Once you’ve built up enough tokens, you can trade them for various different rewards, with the cheapest being a £5 Amazon voucher for 50 tokens. Gener8 says most users reach this after around 1 week of having the plugin installed.
At the moment there are lots of different rewards that you can exchange your tokens for including an Amazon Echo Dot, Fire TV stick and headphones – but you’ll need to save up your tokens to claim the big ones. You can also make donations to charity too – with Gener8 matching anything you put in.
How do you claim?
As they are still in beta, you’ll need to refer 2 of your friends to unlock the ‘marketplace’ and claim your rewards – you also get 10 tokens for each person you sign up too (worth about £1 ish). I personally signed up my mother and my partner, and got access pretty quickly.
Here’s what the marketplace looks like. As you can see, there is a countdown clock which tells you when the next batch of rewards will be released:
Personally, I recommend you set a reminder on your phone for a few minutes before they are released – as they go FAST! But a few quick clicks will secure you a voucher or a bigger prize if you save up enough.
You can only claim one reward from the marketplace every 7 days, so you’ll need to choose wisely what you want to grab. The beauty of it is, while you wait a week to get your next reward, you can build your tokens back up. So even if you used them all, you usually have enough to purchase something else after the week is up (if you’re quick enough)!
You can add your same account on multiple computers too. For example I have Gener8 installed on my work and personal computer – so I earn at home and at work.
Just to give you some perspective – I have been signed up since September and I have over 600 tokens in my account (and that’s after using 200 of them on Amazon vouchers). I do a lot of surfing the web as part of my job, but I’m surprised at how much has built up.
Believe me when I say – it gets addictive. I’m regularly checking my account and how many tokens I have earned. Hopefully while you’re searching the web for deals, you’ll also be earning money for it too!
£20 in Amazon vouchers isn’t too shabby for having something on in the background. If you want some more tips to saving on Amazon, there are tons of free trials you can claim and even a way to share the cost of Prime.
